sailboat is a self-published short story by nicolas visbal. it is a story about a father-son relationship. wondering about a role of a father with a fictional sailor on the sea setting. when i was approached to do the illustrations for it, i asked if there was any illustration as a style-reference in mind. for which i was shown a beautiful woodcut print of the sea. although i drew all the illustrations digitally, i wanted to carry on the limited colour palette and the textures created by thin lines associated with this printing technique.
additionally i also fully embraced that i was finally able to use detailed design - since for my hand-drawn animations it would never be practical to add such elaborate tattoos or any detailed micro pattern.
